I have a 1966 Series 2 Elan
It is an LHD USA Car very original with less than 30K miles
I have just taken delivery of a set of stainless steel pipes from a reputable source (SJ Sportscars) hovever at both ends i.e the banjo/caliper and the copper brake pipe the replacement s/s hose (thread) is too large for the existing fittings.
From the The Original Lotus Robinshaw/Ross book that the Calipers on the S1 and early (define early in Lotus terms ) were different from later S2/3/4 models.
I have also tried against my Sprint Caliper which I know is a different size and it does fit that as expected.
Any steers please.
Regards
Colin

Actually the S1 through S3 cars should be the same but the S4 is different on the front calipers because they didn't have the banjo fitting and instead had a short brake pipe from the caliper to the hose. That front hose for the S4 should be a bit shorter and have the long bulkhead fitting at both ends, the rears all have the same length for all series cars and a short and long fitting like the earlier Elan front hose.

My S4 has banjo fittings on the front calipers. May not be typical of course !

Now that I think about John's S4 is typical. I had forgotten that it was actually just the Sprint Elans that had the short bundy pipe at the front caliper and the different brake hose. The Sprint has what looks exactly like the Europa Twin Cam front caliper arrangement which makes since from a production standpoint during that point in time (1972).
