Dear All
Finishing off my rear end rebuild (don't ask about the wheel falling off on Sunday)and have come across the "uprated handbrake tree" Section J Braking system page 27,the problem is that I have a longer right hand rod (pre-update)and a shorter left hand rod (after update),so don't know which to adjust without knowing the difference in the "uprated" tree (lever assembly),does it have longer arms?,arms set at a different angle?,
any info would be appreciated
Thanks
John
P.S. is this common to the elan also? (see I didn't call it baby)

To quote the manual:
"NOTE: When re-assembling the rods to the swivel tree it is essential that the
SHORTEST rod is fitted to the RIGHT-HAND side."
The tree is not in the center of the chassis. The "uprated" reference is to the closing of the top of the 'barrel' so the threads don't rust and prevent the tree from turning.
Enjoy your first drive,
Don
And I didn't ask about the wheel falling off.

but also included in the "uprating" is the fact that both rods were reduced in length....so I take it that the tree ,apart from closing the top,was not altered statistically?

Oops, Plus 2. They should be the same for you as well. The calipers did not change. I would think that the lever arms would stay the same as well.
All of which is moot, if the rods came off of your car they should go back on.

Don
thanks, have shortened the longer of the rods and it seems to have balanced the handbrake parts on the calipers....looks like the mod (shortening both rods) was only applicable to the Plus2's...?
