Master cylinder caps

PostPost by: weldsol » Fri Jul 10, 2009 1:33 pm

Hi there to you all I'm a newbie to this site and I'm hoping someone can help.
I'm trying to source the low fluid level unit that screws on the brake master cylinder.
I have just ordered a new (single line) cylinder from Paul Matty but it comes with a plain cap.
He says the federal one has the cap I want but he cannot source them.
So any ideas what other cars this was fitted to ????

Hi Paul

If you're talking about what's on the circa '73 Plus 2s 130, the basic "Sovy" float switch was also fitted to Aston Martin DBs, Jaguar E types, Rover 2000s to name a few, however, all these installations were subtially different so I don't think any would fit a Plus 2 without modification. Problem is the switch is rivited together so to modify one, at the very least you'd be looking at drilling out the rivits and then trying to reassemble it around the plastic extention neck from a Plus 2 master Cylinder.

A friend did get some new pattern ones for his E type but they were very expensive and not really very good quality

Paul, the Sovy cap was very poorly sealed letting water vapour from the air into the hydraulic fluid. Even if you can find a 2nd hand one you might not want to fit it for this reason.

A modern replacement is available from car builder solutions, see link (http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/brake-fluid- ... -129-p.asp)
