Disc Brake Upgrade

I have been look around for information on brake upgrades, my understanding is the +2 brakes and clipers will fit. i also understand that these are Triumph parts from GT6 if this is the case I have had a look at Canley Classic they have some groved and drilled GT6 discs

Has anybody tried them? At ?53 per pair does not seem to bad.

I looked at the web site which Gary Anderson mentioned in the "Elan Flairs - Good, Bad etc"

In the brakes section the grooved discs you mentioned were used. I was thinking about emailing to ask the same question you posted, but as yet not got to it.

Bob,
I keep wondering about topics like this and wondering if the individuals wanting to do conversions such as this have actually driven a correctly functioning Elan. I can remember driving my SS and my FHC years ago when the rear calipers were frozen or nearly so, and what lack of brakes that was. I've also have had the pads at the front be too tall so that they didn't wear all across the face of the pad, built up a little ridge at the top that eventually grew together and the pads touched each other outside the disc. Great confidence builder that!
But as a general rule, standard Elan brakes are wonderful for street use, when they're in good condition. If you are actually racing, larger brakes might be of some benefit. But I would think that for 90% of the Elan owners on this list, normal Elan brakes in good condition are fine.

I agree that for road use the Elans standard setup is more than adequate in any circumstance.
For race use with use of top quality pads and disks they are also more than adequate on all tracks I compete on, even those with extreme brake usage. They certainly get to the limit of temperatures in these circumstances but a big brake upgrade is not mandatory.
In the end its a personal choice but if looking for reduced effort I would add a booster to the standard brakes rather than fit plus 2 brakes

Depending how original you want to be these are great value and work brilliantly. They were developed for Caterhams and so bolt straight on.

They are routinely used with Elise S1 pads, and with a little fettling to the back plate Plus 2 pads fit, giving max friction area on std discs and reduction in unsprung weight - they weigh <900gms each. I have them fitted, great pedal feel and stopping power. Use with std M/C.
