Anti Rattle Springs for Plus 2 front brakes

Hi

Anybody out there know where I might be able to get hold of anti-rattle springs (not the anti squeal shims)for Elan Plus 2 front calipers.

I've tried various Triumph sites and the Lotus specialists but none appear to be listed.

The front brakes sound as though I'm on a pushbike with a lollipop stick whacking the wheel spokes.

I guess that your best bet would be to ask "Classicar Automotive" they specialise in renovating brakes, particularly Lotus brakes.

Sounds like further investigation is required, it could be dangerous.

Last time I was talking to CA (in August) they weren't stocking the shims, so I got then from Paul Matty

Nah. Not dangerous, just annoying. The anti rattle clips / springs locate behind the holding pins,and only put a slight forward 'load' on the pads. Just stops the rattling.
You could always put a slight pressure on the pedal to shut them up. <Joke>

Get hold of some good quality stainless wire and bend your own! They don't need to be spring steel.

Yes, I know what you mean now, I have them on the BMWs - but there's none on the Plus Twos

Someone's removed or lost them. Copy the beemers efforts and fit them to the +2 ??
You also get an anti squeal shim with the little lips on which do the same job They just hold the pads against the front of the caliper. Those will be easier to get possibly. Perhaps the parts suppliers / caliper overhaulers can get these for you?

They had the shims with the sprung lip so they must be obtainable.

That's good to know, but basically, I never had the anti-rattle shims and the pads never rattled; not once in 23 years

(If it ain't broke, don't fix it !)

But are the "Baby" Elan pads/retention pins any different from the Plus 2 ?

It can depend on how tight the pads fit and how much wear there is in the caliper where the pads rest. Sometimes you need the springs (or the shims) to shut the things up. They can produce a fair clatter.

But if it don't bother you...... Leave it.

Just an update and thanks for the replies.

Bit of lateral thinking- I got hold of a fitting kit from Graham Walker Ltd who are Scimitar specialists. They sell the pins plus the springs for around ?6.50.

Slight mod to the springs so that they fit the plus 2 calipers and job done! Info might be of use to other owners.
