Handbrake Clamping Levers

Hi all,
Has anyone removed both the inner and outer handbrake clamping levers from the rear brake calipers?
At the moment I can not see how it can be done apart from drilling out the pin and then replacing it.
Any assistance would be greatfully received.

Hi David
If you clean the caliper parts real good, you will notice that the pins (that the levers pivot on) are internally threaded to except a 10-32 rod or bolt . If you screw a threaded rod in the pin with a nut, a washer, and a deep socket that is larger than the diameter of the pin, the pin will be pulled out as you tighten the nut. You may want to add some heat to help it along...

I use a small slide hammer for extracting these pivots. I made a small adapter for the slide hammer that holds a long 10-32 set screw which is screwed into the pin. Clean everything well first as Gary says and the pins will come out fairly easily.

Hi all,
The first one came out pretty easily; the second one is still in there. I will need to drill a bit deeper and then cut out a longer thread to have a better chance of removing it.
I do like the idea of a slide hammer.
