VAT was payable at the point of sale before brexbodge unless an EU VAT N° was supplied. Although I have an EU VAT N° for my own firm, I prefer not to mix business and hobby assets.
Since Jan 1st the situation on VAT has become "plus intéressante".
European customers no longer have to pay UK VAT on purchases which have been "Made in the UK". The VAT is collected instead by customs at the port of entry.
In effect, Boris gifts this VAT to the EU27 on UK made goods, unless of course you happen to go through customs when the French / Belgian / Dutch / Spanish (delete as appropriate) are watching footie!
