Hi,
Alan and Wiki are correct: heat to cherry red and quench in water - only takes a couple of seconds.

Heating them up then allowing them to cool until they can be handled has always worked well for me. But you do need to make sure the mating surfaces are perfectly clean and true. Worth looking with a magnifying glass if you can't stop them leaking with new parts.
