Hand brake pads

PostPost by: patrics » Sun Mar 29, 2009 8:29 pm

Will,

The dimensions you need for the pivot pin are

Overall length 1.84
Length non threaded end 0.70
Length where pad sits 0.61
Diameter 0.330/0.351
Diameter where pad sits 0.310
2BA thread depth min 0.187
EN 56B

Before you mill it out run a 2BA tap down it or drill tap to next size up then remove as Gary?s pictures ? always use the nut to draw the pin out not the bolt head.

To remove the pads you might have to push the pin further in first ? the pin is only a push fit so should come out okay.

Andy,
The pad thickness is 0.365 measured from the backplate.
Haven?t forgotten about the respray - talk to you soon and try and arrange something.

Regards
Steve

Does anyone have contact details (UK) for outright purchase of handbrake pads as I cannot be bothered with exchange?

The Ebay listing has gone now. If anyone has their details that would be great.

Cheers

Vincent Haydon (jivodon on UK Ebay) was listing them.

None listed currently:

Thanks Paddy.

I have found a set today that are 3/4 in the bottom of a box in the garage; I think I may use them and contact the Ebay guy and see if he has any coming up. The worn ones came from a pair of calipers that I bought and are a bit oily but may be ok.

Cheers

Why not get your existing set relined? Any competent brake relining outfit should be able to do it easily. Do a Google search for the nearest one.

Great minds. I already emailed a company in Ipswich last week but as yet they have not responded.
I have an old set that are OK and have emailed the Ebay guy so should be ok.

Its just that I replaced the rear caliper on the drivers side with one I rebuilt which completes that corner rebuild so wanted to tick it off and move onto the other corner.

Cheers

Buy some Ferodo and reline them yourself. Its not rocket science. All you need is the correct glue which is freely available and a spare set of worn out pads. Approx 5 mm thick Ferodo is available. It can be cut manually with a hack saw or a band-saw if you have. Don't breath the dust. Use a good mask.

http://www.anabond.com/rubber_classi_3.htm I bought this about 6 - 9 months ago but cant remember where, but the maker will tell you where you can buy it..

The last 'lump' of Ferodo I bought was at a classic Auto-jumble and I've relined two sets of pads with it so far. Cost no more than about a tenner per set.
Needless to say (I hope!) .... Do NOT try to reline your main road disc pads yourself. Handbrake is fine to reline but nothing else
Happy days...
