Rear Calipers - VW Polo

PostPost by: smo17003 » Mon Jan 22, 2024 1:47 pm

There's a +2 currently for sale on Ebay and the description says that it has VW Polo rear calipers fitted. Does anyone know of this modification? Just out of interest as I don't recall it being mentioned on here before.

Interesting thanks for posting the link.

Reading through the sellers description and looking at the photos I'm not sure what hubs are being used. The wheels are bolt on and the seller states they are Ford 108PCD, so pretty sure they are not the original Lotus hubs being used.

I suspect it's a similar setup to the Spyder Zetec rear suspension setup that incorporates Ford hubs and calipers. If I'm right and there were a decent picture of the rear wheel you should be able to see the discs behind the wheel spokes rather than further inboard as standard.
Kindest regards

We have had in the family a few VW Polo's in the past and they have all had drum rear brakes. Quite how they would use those on a +2 rear setup is beyond me! :?
Perhaps the current model Polo has disc rears?

At least from Polo 4 there are rear disc brakes.
Maybe a GTI version in the previous generation, too ?

£20k is quite a reasonable price for a well presented +2 in my not so humble opinion :D Looks to be good paint and nice interior, certainly not an "original purist" car but could well be an "enthusiasts" car.

Back to the calipers, it looks like the original under dash umbrella handbrake is in use as the internal photo doesn't show a more conventional handbrake like I have in my cars, so the mystery of the Polo calipers continues. Perhaps if someone on here is genuinely interested in buying the car they will ask the question and enlighten us all?
Kindest regards

Polos do have disc rear brakes depending on engine power. They are normaly mounted 2 bolts inside, break with handbrake to outside. Handbrake is helicoid style with lever bowden type. :)
