Handbrake cable in engine bay

PostPost by: street » Sun Jul 16, 2023 11:42 pm

I am sure something is not right as my cable has too much slack after removal for chassis rebuild, the cable protector that sits in the engine bay use to feel firm and under tension, its now all floppy. Would appreciate any photos or links to old threads showing cable from bottom of chassis through to bulkhead.

Here’s a pic when I stripped mine. Is this what you want?

I believe the cable should be between the steering column and the body. Not the other side as shown in that photo.

My car has a little cut out in the lip on the body for it if I remember correctly.

My cable runs between body and steering column, I hoping for picture of how it goes through bulkhead.

There are just two holes in the bulkhead, one for the steering column and one for the handbrake cable. It just passes through the hole and connects to the handbrake mechanism that is bolted to the top of the footwell.

Are you sure you have the handbrake tree at the rear set up correctly?

i have that plate, its not fitted though, I need to work out better solution for poking cable through.

On inspection last night my tree is stuck against body, the tree upright on mine is off set, so it looks like I've put spacer on wrong side. of course getting to the rear nut is a pleasure, will find out tonight when I have another crack at it.

Thanks for help, definitely have tree issues, mostly user install error 9rods on wrong sides = pushing not pulling and spacer on wrong side.
