Hand brake mounting pin

I have decided to put the handbrake system back on my car. When I removed them I left the mounting pins in the brake calipers. Now they are stuck in place.


Is there any trick to getting the rear handbrake caliper mounting pin out of the caliper. See picture

Thanks for any ideas. I have tried vise grips. They cannot be banged out since only one end is open.

The open ends of the pins have an internal thread, you screw in a suitable bolt to pull them out of the caliper. From memory I think the small bolt which holds the two little retractor bracket/spring thingys fits if you still have that, don't know off hand what thread that is though. Hopefully the pins were greased well when last fitted, including in the threaded hole, otherwise you may struggle to get them out.

the open end accepts a threaded rod 10-32 I think. I bought a 6" piece of rod at the Ace store in the nuts and bolts section, also nuts to fit, a couple of thick washers and a short piece of pipe 2" long and just big enough to bracket the hole (it was sold as a spacer I think). A torch, 50/50 acetone-Marvel mix and patience, it took about a week.

Excellent. 10/32 is the thread pitch.
