Plus 2 suspension/brake rebuild problem No. 2

PostPost by: dunclentdr » Tue Sep 30, 2014 5:33 pm

Managed to get the rebuilt suspension and braking system on recently purchased Plus 2 today and have been advised of some problems - here is No.2 and hoping for advice on resolution.

The rear brake calipers have been rebuilt but after a few miles the pin that supports/holds the handbrake mechanism has started to drop out - any ideas on a simple fix?

The pins are pressed in and have a threaded hole in the end to enable a bolt to be fitted so they can be pulled on to be removed. If the pin is loose in the holes in the caliper then you may need to replace with an oversize pin. Loctite may help hold it but potentially the temperature that close to the brakes may be to high for Loctite.

Looking at the clearer photo in your problem no3 it looks as if you may have a non standard pin with an extended end? Are you sure they have moved or has someone modified them to make easier to pull out ?

I used a sliding hammer with an appropriately threaded end to remove the pins from my rear calipers. They were securely fitted if I remember rightly.

Edit - the pins have a 2BA internal thread (or at least mine do!)

Hi David
The hand brake pin is only a push fit and is held in by the brake pad assembly. So either wrong pin or error with pad
