booster "one way" valve orientation

PostPost by: rdssdi » Sun Feb 24, 2013 2:32 pm

I hooked up the one way vacuum valve in the vacuum line going to the brake booster with the arrow pointing towards the vacuum source. The valve says "out" with an arrow.

Is this correct?

That sounds right to me.
The arrow indicates the direction of flow through the valve and air needs to flow from the booster to the manifold but not in the reverse direction.

I tested it by blowing into the valve. It is correct with the "out" arrow pointing to the supply.

The next problem is why do my brakes feel hard and unassisted?

Does it need the same force whether or not the vacuum pipe is connected to the manifold.

Your most likely thing is that your brake servos need renovating, but before anyone else can help you much you probably need to say what model of Elan it is and what type of Brake servo (or servos) is fitted. And where you are.

The Workshop Manual has a whole page on how to test the servo that's a good place to start.

I am using twin Lockheed boosters. They are brand new.

I will look at the workshop manual.

I suppose that I should check the vacuum available and go from there.

Thanks
