EBC Brake Pads

Brake pads has been covered before, at present, this is what is working for me. I have a, 1969/1970 Elan +2, no brake servos. Replaced the brake master cylinder with the Elan/Europa ".7 inch" dual circuit master cylinder (car had dual circuit brakes). The pedal box area was strengthened by me during the rebuild. Brake pedal travel is not bad, pedal effort, does not terrify me, at least not yet. To install the pads in the calipers, the pad sides, must have material removed from the edges to fit the calipers, does not take long. The EBC part number is; DP2291. The number is for, "Green Stuff" pads. Other numbers on the box are; D330 and 7AF44/69. The pads fit (information on the box); AC Cobra, Lotus Elan, Triumph TR6, Morgan Plus 8, Saab 900. I have noticed more brake dust on the front wheels. So far no problems, in my situation, the EBC pads seem to be working well.
When I bought the car, there were no servos with the original large master cylinder. Not much brake pedal travel, hard pedal, terrifying to stop. Hope this helps, Steve V. +2 in Arizona

Hi Steve,
That's pretty much what I have on my S3 Elan and TC Europa, both have the 0.7 d/c master cylinder, no servo and greenstuff front pads. The Elan has the larger +2 front discs & calipers, the Europa is standard with drums rear & the 14 series (smaller) calipers. Pedal pressure is fine in both cases and pedal travel is within the "normal" range for your average modern car. The black dust is something you have to live with though, mine is the same.

Not that this is any help... we had loads of trouble with Greenstuff pads on the Mini (old skule, not the modern BMW), we found that the wearing face was prone to breaking up around the edges. Our suspicion was that if the car had been "driven briskly" and parked for the night, then the pads would stick to the rotors and, when moved in the morning, bits would break off. The wear rate was also abysmal.
The folks at MiniSport said that their preferred pads were Mintex, which we fitted and
1. they work better
2. they don't break up
3. they last longer
4. they squeak loudly just as the car come to a stop!

Hi
For what this is worth- (I've previously posted comments about this topic)- I tried various pads in my elan sprint after installing plus 2 calipers and removing the servo. The only pads that worked for me (it's only my own experience) were original old stock which presumably were asbestos. I got a spare set on ebay just in case although the wear rate suggests they'll be gathering dust for years. Stopping ability/feelwise the system is like a less sensitive servoed one.

My brakes were always a bit crap. So this summer replaced all the discs and pads. I fitted the EBC grooved discs, green stuff at the front and their other "black" pads at the rear. Incredible difference the car stops really well and does not veer under hard braking like it used to. All in all well pleased. All else standard ie master cylinder and servo.
cheers

I have used EBC Greenstuff for many years on my S130 +2 (with servo). I find them very good. Powerful (easy to lock wheels if you push hard enough) with good feel and I got 26000 from the last set on the front including a few 3 Castles Welsh Rallies. I think the car was on Mintex when I first had it (1994) which I didn't like at all.
I have the original plain discs. It is said that grooved discs have a very bad effect on pad life, but I have no experience.

I was going mad with the amount of brake dust produced from my Green Stuff EBC's, so I went to higher spec Red Stuff (different material).
Loads better and no noticeable difference in pedal feel (I still have my Girling servo).
Cheers
