Elan Handbrake Pad For 1971 Sprint

PostPost by: andrewdmoore » Wed Oct 22, 2003 11:52 am

Has anyone got a spare near-side outer/off-side inner handbrake pad spare please. For some strange reason its the only one of the 4 that's worn. I don't want a new one just one with at least 3mm pad left. Thanks.

Andrew

Easiest to take the pad to a brake place and get it relined. Never throw out a worn hand brake pad as the back plates are hard to get hold of these days. One pad normally wears unevenly when the L - shaped springs are not adjusted correctly to hold the pad of the disk or the pad pivot is partially siezed due to corrossion and not free to move.

Rohan,

Thanks for that. I've actually got 6 pads awaiting reconditioning (or sale if anyone's interested!) but I was hoping someone had a half used one kicking around they didn't want, so all 4 would have similar wear.

I got a set from JAE fairly recently, believe they were cheaper than $150. As with a lot of things, it pays to shop around a little for lotus parts and there is a decent spread in price (and probably quality) among the suppliers.

I'll be keeping my old ones to get them re-done thou.
