Restore options for Elan plus 2

PostPost by: JunzieB » Fri Sep 06, 2024 1:50 am

Hi guys,
Hoping I can get some assistance to point me in the right direction.
I recently came across this 71 Elan. It’s been gifted to me but has been sitting for over 30 years. It’s a beautiful car that I would love to see running at 100% again but I don’t know where to start in locating a trusted shop to supply parts or perform the task.
I’d love to say I’d do it myself but I’d be lying as I barely have the time to perform the tasks on my current summer cars.
I’ve been made offers to sell the car but I don’t feel I wouldn’t be doing it justice as it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to own this machine.
Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.
I’m located in Ontario Canada.

Thanks in advance for any input.

If you don't have time to restore it now, why not store it until you do have time?

Assuming you are confident enough to undertake it, an owner restoration is a very rewarding pastime.

Another way might be to recommission it as-is just to get it running, then use it a while for fun.

If you get a restoration done professionally, it will cost you way more than the car is worth.

Oh, lucky you for being gifted a Lotus. Welcome to the forum!

I’ll be honest, prior to inheriting this car I already have a car problem with 2 summer only cars and 3 others. I was at the point where I realized I barely have enough time to enjoy them all by doing individual projects so I’m afraid if I delay, it’ll collect dust and be forgotten due to lack of space and time for restoration.
It’ll always be easier to drive the ones that are up and running when I have the time rather than find the time to get this one going.
It’s a good problem to have. Lol!

I never thought of looking that up, I’ll look into what ones are around here if any.
Thank you.
