Lotus Elan

Mystery seats

PostPost by: alex.mcguffie » Tue Mar 19, 2024 10:14 am

Hi,
Would anyone know the origin of these seats? I know they're not original +2S seats as at some point in the past my late father has changed them. They have the original basket weave vinyl though so have either been re-covered or off a Lotus I'm not aware of.

Can't be absolutely certain but they look very much like Jaguar XJS Mark 1 seats to me.

They are good-looking seats. I will be interested in learning more about them myself.

The early Jaguar XJS seats used in the Mk1 SJS are totally different to the later XJS seats.
This is the only small photo i can currently find of those early XJS Mark1 seats but they do look to me as i said before the same or very similar to the seats that Alex has.

Hi

Those look really nice,. I wonder how heavy they are?

I went with these BB seats, cheap and light, look like the early seats but have the all important (to me) head restraints.

All the best

They look like an early recaro that has the back bolsters enlarged. Definitely look nice and would hold you well.

Hi Berni,

Please do, I’m thinking about getting a set, they look good and the headrest would be a bonus.

Cheers

I'll admit that non-stock seats are an interesting topic to me. After spending so much time and effort cleaning my seats and getting them back into good shape, I'm finding that the federal integrated head restraints are not comfortable. I'm very tall, so I find that all they do for me is push my shoulders forward.
