Rev counter repair

Trying to ‘bump’ this previous post on the Smiths rev counter repair.

Have any other members installed the clocks4classics Smith rev counter repair module? https://www.clocks4classics.com/tachome ... tails.html

Seems to offer a sensible upgrade where the original rev counter is not working.

Anyone had any experience of this option?

I have recently installed this module in my +2. Installation and calibration are easy and I am highly satisfied with the result. Needle is steady and follows engine rev's well - will now get one for my Cortina GT 500.

I installed one just before Christmas in my +2. It was pretty straightforward to install and calibrate and the rev counter is better than it has ever been in the 40 years I’ve had the car!

I have just ordered one. Maybe finally I will have a tach that reads correctly.

I’m planning on ordering one too. The tachometer is becoming increasingly random!

I fitted one to my Plus 2 rev counter - it works now. It was reasonably easy to fit and calibrate. Recommended.

Hi Matt, Richard and Norman,

out of interest, did you get the Clocks4Classics Easyfit tacho board that replaces the outer board in the Smiths tacho,

https://www.clocks4classics.com/easyfit ... -kits.html

or did you get their UniTacho board that is more generic:

https://www.clocks4classics.com/unitach ... -kits.html

??
Thanks

I used the "easyfit' board and for the first time in over fifty years I have a Smiths tacho that works properly.

I used the RCV/ RCi conversion board available from Spiyder Electrical, found to offer a great product and unbelievably good Service. They will do the conversation for you or supply a do-it-yourself kit that works great.

Check out Spiyda on eBay UK.

Hi all,

I have successfully fitted the clocks4classics "easyfit" board to my tachometer. I was a little reluctant to drill a hole for the wires in the back, but decided a working tach with a small hole in the back was better than the unreliable unit I had.

I particularly liked the on-board calibration, which made stting up the tach a breeze, and the tach is now steady as a rock and performs beautifully.

The hardest part was getting the tach out and back in the dashboard, damn these short, fat, stubby fingers!
