The original item is just "screwed" into a captive nut which is part of the outer dash attachment. the same bracket also holds the trip reset on the RHS (68 +2).

Not to hijack the thread but details please? Mine ('70 LHD) just protrudes from the rear face of the speedo and hangs down slightly. Not at all hard to find by feel when I want to re-set it but I also didn't know that it may have once been mounted to something so I'm curious whether or not I'd like that arrangement better.

To bring the dialogue back to my original question, in case anyone searches this theme in the future, the switch is screwed into the door jam: it is a 3/8 unf thread. To remove, you need first to reach under the far edge of the dashboard to remove the thin nut and earth wire from the wiring inside the door to the switch and the eartth wire connection onward from switch end. I found it easiest to remove the dash underpanel , but not strictly necessary if you don't have big hands and your wiring is solid. Then you can unscrew the switch from the outside, by depressing the switch to get a grip on the big philips screw head. If you need to replace the switch, it is identical to the Morris Minor's. Cheers.. Tony
