Another fuel cap post

Does anybody know where this part is from....assuming it is a Lotus bit!
I was messing about with the fuel filler on my Plus 2 and this part appeared next to it.
Anyhow I took the cap apart to see if it had come from the cap but cannot see where it comes from.
Any ideas?

Looking at mine (pic attached) it looks like the spring which sits in the cap close to the hinge and behind the rubber closure. My cap is original (not locking) and renovated, but I seem to remember that originally the steel/rubber closure was not removable (needed the centre drilling out). Good luck getting it back in! The whole cap can be removed, but it needs the hinge roll pin to be drifted out.

If you you take it apart you might be able refit it. Or new caps are available.

If you drift out the scroll pin remove all including filler tube from car.
Otherwise you will risk cracks in body from the shocks.

Many thanks for the replies, at least I know where the thing came from now.
I will have a look at putting it back in; but as I guess it is only to add a bit of friction to the hinge it might be surplus to requirements.
Thanks

I think it holds the lid open while filling. So does have a purpose but can probably survive with out it.

My non-locking cap doesn't have this, but stays open well enough without it. Were there more than one supplier for caps?
