Restoration plus 2 in uk

Hello,
My wife’s father has had his plus 2 for many years. We have been together since 1991 and the car was in a state back then and wasn’t running. We are keen for all sorts of reasons to get the car restored. It’s currently in Albany New York but we live in London. Unfortunately as much as I would like to do this myself I have neither the time nor the space so -and probably the skill- we need to find someone to restore this. It feels like we need to ship it back to the uk and get it sorted out in the uk but we are open to all suggestions. Any advice welcomed re restorers in uk or New York area. This is the start of our process so any hints tips etc gladly received. … we do not have endless supplies of money but this is quite important to my wife in particular hence the need to get it done.

Hi.
I can recommend Spydercars, if you don't mind the wait (4, 5, years!). Thier work on my JPS was excellent.
Your costs may be quite high if you have someone do the work for you. I,E A full repaint with any repairs £10,000 plus unowns , full engine rebuild £4500 plus unowns. Your dash looks very tired, that's £450 on its own. If the chassis is shot £1500-£2000 depending on the one you choose.
The car when finished is amazing to drive and will reward you well if looked after.
I hope you finish the car to save another one of these amazing vehicles.
Regards Tony

Try PJS Sportscars, Burton on Trent. They do complete restorations of all Lotus and were a Lotus approved service and repair centre for all modern Lotus’s before Lotus fired the complete network earlier this year. They provide an excellent service.

Hi I live 25 miles west of NYC on Long Island & I have to say do not know of any specialist restorers of older Lotus models. To give you an idea of prices, there is a good restoration shop locally called AutoSport Designs, that I have seen working on Aston Martins, Ferraris etc, but their hourly rate is $160.... So I think you would do best to export the car back to the UK & go with someone like PJS or Spyder...
p.s. Nice car... reminds me of my old Plus2S130/5 that I had in the UK before I came over here myself...
