History lotus elan plus 2 (POW 136G)

PostPost by: Bowers » Mon Sep 27, 2021 5:44 pm

Hi guys wonder if any one can help with this random request.
I bought a 1969 lotus elan plus 2 (POW 136G ) a while back. It's clearly had some work done but sadly it never came with any history. Work like painted diff possibly new. Great looking struts ect.
Where would be the best place to track down a history ?

Welcome!

A registration number might be a good starting point, somebody on the forum may know the car.

Email the Andy Graham at Lotus with registration number and VIN. Ask Andy for a "Classic Certificate of Vehicle Provenance". This will at least give you the original record from when the car left the factory against the VIN supplied.

He will also be able to tell you if the car was supplied as a kit to save the 25% purchase tax or fully factory assembled. If the engine number on the VIN plate is missing or has been added later its probably a kit.

The accounts register that the information is obtained from is unfortunately all that remains at Lotus, the main build records were lost years ago. They should have invoice numbers and name of dealer that supplied the car with the engine variant details which is very useful. The above info will be in a formal letter from Lotus Cras Ltd.

regards
Pedro
