Barn find with no documents

PostPost by: Brunyee’s Plus 2 » Sun Feb 16, 2020 10:09 pm

Good evening
Firstly let me introduce myself.
I’m Kevin and I live in Cornwall Uk
I’ve recently bouffant barn find which has no documented history.
It’s last recorded mot was 1980.
I know it has a spyder chassis (old one)
I’ve tried to get a new log book but obviously because the chassis numbers don’t match I think I’m going to open up a can of worms..
By the way it doesn’t even have the original bin plate in the engine bay either..
What do you suggest I do? Is there a database I can get the original vin number etc?
Thanks for your help
Kind regards Kev

If the VIN plate has been removed it may have been (illegally) used on another vehicle.

Try finding the Engine number, which is stamped (not moulded) above the engine mount.

and the Body number see: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=38735&start=

Hi Kev,

Can you post some pics of the car? It’s likely someone on here may recognise it and could tell you the registration number. That at least would give you a start.

Between Kev, me, Andy Graham and a mate of Kev's we have now tracked down the identity of this car.

Kev will now be able to restore and drive his car quite legally and happily, which is grand news!

To be accurate, Steve, it all happened over on the Facebook page for Classic Lotus Elans!

However, Kev was also pointed in the direction of our forum here during the conversation.

Hi thanks for comments and help,
As Tim said we’ve now tracked down the info I needed.
So as far as I know it was made in Oct 1969, plus 2s and apparently the records show it went to Brooke bond (tea I’m guessing in Oxford?)
Also looks like it’s the original engine also.
Great news
