Period Correct Engine Bay

Hi guys,
Does anyone have any images of what a period correct engine bay looks like for each of the +2, +2S and +2S 130.
As I have been trawling through various for sale ads, its hard to fathom which have had modifications and which are more original. I've got my head around the carb variations and cylinders head, but general layout of the engine bay seems to vary a lot. Stuff just seems to be in different places on different cars of the same model/year.

Peter, you could do worse than pick up one of the several Brooklands Books of contemporary Elan road tests, all of which have factory correct engine bay photos.

HI Dave, why do some 103's have a visible brake servo and some don't?

Not being a plus two person I dont really know the differences between the +2, +2S and +2S cars but here is a couple of pics of a genuine JPS plus two, although the carb airbox off it is completely standard (according to the owner) and has never even had the engine taken out, hope this helps.

Am I right in understanding the twin servos was a 'Federal' modification for US cars

federal had Stromberg carbs, all other had weber carbs, but all had boosters for the brake system (one booster on top inner fender, the other up front in nose cone. This car DID have A/C equipped (FYI)

Heh, no, dual brake servos would have been side by side in the engine bay. Dealer installed AC would move one to the nose. The replacement servos don't fit so one has to go in the nose
Perhaps there is a variation otherwise with the servo in the nose, but I have not seen it
Federal cars stay pretty consistent, 2 fuse, 3 fusebox, 4 fuse. All 2 fuse should have generator, all 4 fuse should have alternator. Some two fuse will have big radiator.
Emissions plumbing is frequently missing. vacuum retard lines especially.
There is more variation in Euro cars, weber stromberg, RHD, single braking....

Sorry that I don't have pictures of an OE bay...
As Far as I know... There were a few variations of the early +2 (pre S, RHD).
- Wiper motor was moved from the (removable) plate above the passenger foot-well to the side of the engine bay, just under the bonnet strut.
- Servo type was changed, but both types mounted near the thermostat housing
- the shape of the metal servo pipe that runs behind the head changed (possibly 3 types)
- bonnet frame for earlier cars has a spring to open the bonnet,..soon deleted for safety reasons
- bonnet had holes cut into trailing edge to enable it to be lifted easily
- air filter position changed from flat to upright (maybe with introduction of S ?) and then I think it moved further forward with a change in air filter trunking construction.
- not sure on change point for
radiator width, radiator fan introduction, position of recuperator bottle
don't mention the red clutch pipe
some of these are mentioned in the workshop manual (as dealer service improvements)

Brake Servo is not original and has been changed. For info Servo has not been fitted at the correct angle also
