Shipping my Elan plus 2 S home

PostPost by: Aquaplane Ford » Thu Jan 28, 2016 4:28 pm

I live in Wenatchee, Washington, and bought my '72' Lotus Plus2 S, about as far away from me as I could get, in Sebago, Maine! It's taken my shipping company 1 month to get a shipper to go pick the car up! Then, last night, the dispatcher called me and told me he had " good news/ bad news " The car was on it's way to me, but when the driver stopped at a rest stop to check on his load, the hood had blown off, and broken the windshield, and the hood was nowhere to be found! The dispatcher assured me that their insurance would cover the damages, but what about finding the hood and windshield to replace? the hood was the one with the bulge on the right side, anybody have an ideas? thanks, Mark Hinderman, I hope this isn't the start of a nightmare restoration for me!

Salut Mark

do both types, but I don't know about shipping.

Windscreens (GB English) come up quite often, too - but again shipping is the problem.

Have you tried Dave Bean ?

For the windshield, I had great service from Richard at ProSourse Glass. They are on the East Coast. The big expense was the crating and shipping, but it sounds like your transportation company will be footing the bill.

IIRC, there is a guy up in Washington that lays up replacement fiberglass parts for Loti. Try a search on here for the contact info. Never used him so I have no idea of quality or prices of his parts.

Good luck with your +2.

The seller of screens may be on the east coast, but the warehouse is in central Ohio.

Call Rick at Pilkington Classics in OH on (800) 848 1351, I got my screen for $151 plus shipping, great screen, great service.

That may well be where ProSource get's their glass from.

Is the car the one in the field advertised on eBay surrounded by Alfa's?

Good luck, looks like a fun project!

p.s. Open transporters may be cheaper but with weather like we have had in the North East this last week & issues like this covered shipping is worth the extra money.
