Lotus elan +2 green color 1973

PostPost by: Dieschelan » Thu May 07, 2015 5:26 pm

Hello

I will respray my Lotus elan +2 (1973). Now the color is Brg but the original colour is L017 renault mid green. I don't find any example of this colour. Is this color the same as laurel green?
I want to change the color. I find also glacier blue a fine colour.

LO17, Pinchin Johnson Ref No 6170A2580; Lotus Part No A036B6426, Renault Mid Green, Metallic, used only from Mar 73 to Oct 73, so very rare.

Laurel Green Metallic was an even rarer colour, in fact so rare Lotus never gave it a code number.

LO18, ICI Ref No P0794403; Lots Part No A050B6223V; PPG Code No 14170, Glacier Blue, Metallic, used only from Jul 73 to Oct 73, sometimes referred to as Ice Blue, an even rarer colour than LO17.

Some examples can be found on the Europa site, though the colour reproduction is not all that good.

Here's a green one:

... a late S130/5 (cloth seat inserts)- I think the owner said the paint was original.

Thank you for the Information. My car is from July 1973. The certificate of provenance says the color was green without paint code. Andy Graham from Lotus says it would be mid Green metallic (the green color for the period). My question is if the laurel green was also an oficial color? In my Lotus books there isn't any information about it. Has someone Information about this color? Which period was used?
I think the green color watched hier is very cool. I will respay the car but I don't know in which colour.

I absolutely love glacier Blue on the Plus 2 and it's what my car is at the moment. I wouldn't hesitate to keep it, but my car is too early for this colour so I will be changing it :(

Dunno. Just noticed the coachline - were they ever standard (except for the JPS) ?

I beliexe the car that Vernon shows is laurel green.

I remember that car, and that picture, when it came up for sale about 5 -7 years ago. It was on sale for a long time, being advertised privately, with the price being reduced as the months went by.

Eventually the ads for the car disappeared, and I assumed that the seller either took it off sale, or sold it. I remember it because I thought the car looked great, and because the seller mentioned that a set of golf clubs would fit in the boot, and that he had just completed an uneventful trip up to Scotland.

Laurel Green was a Lotus colour, but rarely used. It is conceivable that it was used as a special promotion, or a dealer special, or only to special order from the factory.

Whatever, and in the absence of any official literature and without a LO paint code number, we do know that some Plus 2 130S's left the factory in Laurel Green. Again, we do not know when this occurred, but I would suggest late on in the production of the 130S.

The slim gold coach line became standard later on in 130S production too.

Uboat, a lister in Sweden, posted this photo of his car in original laurel green back in 2010:

Uh yes, I recall Uboat's car and the Laurel Green discussion now! That is a seriously nice looking colour in Vernon's pic, but looks a little 'off' in the Uboat pic. Always tricky to get the exact shade on-line I guess.

Clearly the picture that Vern and Tim show are different colours, and I am inclined to think that the picture that Tim has posted, reminds me more of the colour of laurel leaves, than the picture of the late M registered car.

Uboat's photo is the right green I was a Lotus dealer back then and we had one in that colour. David

Here are a couple more Laurel Green cars. The newly painted one (a few years back) is under bright lights so shows a little lighter that it really is. A superb colour!
