A new Elan + 2

PostPost by: johns » Mon Feb 28, 2011 1:07 pm

Need to keep my eyes open for this as my daughter goes to school less than 100yds from Chris Evan's house in Ascot. Will make a third red (mine and the other are both Carnival Red) driving around the Surrey/Berkshire area. Side picture on his Tweet is taken at Marenello (Ferrari/Maserati dealer) in Egham

It was one of the last 3 or 4 made, and I guess that they may have been slow to sell in the end...I had an 'N' reg Plus 2, and there are a few others around.

This car was originally Roman Purple, but the owner changed it to red quite a while ago. It was used for the Lotus 40th celebrations and appeared in many pictures...in red. He wanted to put it back to Purple, but it appeared in too many fab factory pictures in red to be changed back.

Here it is, in the middle.

leedsj,

couldn't have said it better. I have had and do have some neat cars. Although I'm late to the game, the Plus 2 may be one of my greatest rides to date.

Not meaning to de-rail this topic but....Good Grief, that front plate ruins the thing for me !
Can you guys get away with placing the license plate underneath the air intake, all four corners attached to the bodywork, nearly parallel to the ground?
Here in Ohio the law reads "displayed" for the front plate requirement. In the seventies I attached my front plate underneath the intake on my S2 Elan, you could barely see it.

(No doubt the +2 secret is leaking out...)

Hi

Just a small footnote about "the last one"- I well remember in 1976 visiting Cubleys of Ainsdale- then a Lotus agency and seeing a P registered Plus 2 in their workshop.

Hi

Around 1978 I remember seeing a P reg plus 2 in the workshop of Cubley's of Ainsdale (then a Lotus agency). I recall the sales manager telling me it was the last reg'd plus 2 in 1976. Can't remember the colour though.

I have not seen any 'P' reg cars although I know they do exist but just to add to the confusion, I have seen a dark blue 'R' registered +2S 130/5
I now wish I had pulled out my camera for photographic proof to show that my eyes were not deceiving me and I am not deceiving all of you.

I remember there being an 'R' reg for sale recently, could of been blue, or was it purple?

There was a blue S130/5 on an R plate for sale at Paul Matty's in 2007. It had been restored by Ken Myers.

It may have been a very late registered pre August 73 car as the seats didn't have the cloth inserts.

Alternatively the plate could have been added later by an owner whose initials were RPC.

Here are some pictures..

Nice pic's Si. The car sit's very nicely, as I'd like mine to in fact. Slightly chunkier tyres though I notice

Regards

Mine sits much higher over the wheels too but that's what you get with the correct suspension. I suppose we could cut a bit off our springs but I doubt Ken Myers would have done that in his restoration of this car as he's known for an uncompromising adherence to originality.

Does anyone remember another, lighter blue Plus Two on an R plate for sale in 2005? I believe it was being sold by Nigel Wilcox and was a lot tattier.
