It's gone past April 1st !

PostPost by: Spyder fan » Thu Apr 08, 2010 7:10 pm

Thought it was April 1st again when I saw some adverts for +2 parts on fleabay today. Now I'm quite well known for using Ebay to good effect in getting high prices for my rare bits and pieces, but this guy has a serious delusion about the value of used parts. Follow the links and prepare to shake your head in disbelief.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LOTUS-ELAN-S130-W ... 1c106b9771

I started totting up the possible selling prices of all the parts on my +2 which frankly are mint condition, I have got to over ?100,000 and I haven't even added in the new condition and fully working ambient temperature gauge which must be worth ?10,000 all on its own.
Kindest regards

Funnily enough most of them have been on Ebay before and failed to sell - can't think why !

My favourite was this one :

and it's not even a real Elan wheel !

Yeh this guys been kicking about on ebay a wee while now, there was another thread a month or two back with some hilarious prices in it, I quite like the look of the ?100 anti-roll bar with ?15 postage when you can buy a brand new one for ?40! Or the shody replacement steering wheel thats growing algae or something thats also thought to be worth ?100! Or the head lamp pods for ?300!

You're right John, those should be a bargain for someone.

We all treat the show as a swap meet and unauthorised auto jumble, perhaps we should put it to the club to allow a free auto jumble area but state all items must be for less than ?10, that way we can all bring the stuff we were going to throw away like this guy is doing and hopefully that odd carburettor jet or bit of distributor etc will find a good home, I think I would donate my proceeds to a charity.

Rich,
I'm saving up to do a Lotus Cortina next (NOT!!!). Spyder are doing my car for free in the interest of R&D, all I have to pay for is parts and labour, I think it's a good deal personally.

Shock ------ Dishonest people at a Lotus show!

Seriously thats a shame it wasn't handled a bit better; people in general are amazingly honest, but there's always a few who will take advantage. I think I will chain my Chapman signed steering wheel around my neck with a best offer by 4pm secure's sign!
