Surprise

PostPost by: albercoc » Mon Aug 11, 2008 8:37 pm

Good nights to all.

I am immersed in the repair of my elan+2 and today I have been a disagreeable surprise on having dismantled the sheets of the step of wheel, can someone say to me where I can find these new reinforcements?
I have looked for them and have not found them
I suppose that this one must be a very common problem in these cars
Thank you
Regards Juan

I am using a program of translation, hope that he(she) understands himself(herself) well

My guess would be that he has removed the plates in the wheel arches that cover the ends of the sill enclosure, and discovered that the sills are full of rust and not full of the reinforcement fabrication.

Hi Juan,

The problem you describe is a common issue. The sill members are prone to rusting out and need to be replaced

Replacement sills members are available from
http://www.spydercars.co.uk
or
http://www.sjsportscars.co.uk/home.asp

And a good write up on the replacement process

here
and

Good nights!
Thank you very much for your rapid and useful information, which already has been of great help.
Really(Exactly), my problem is the sill member. Already I have visited the pages that Andrew has recommended to me and believe that I have all the information that I need. On the same evening I have dismantled the right(straight) side that was much worse than what it(he,she) was waiting for me, tomorrow I will dismantle the side of the driver.
Thank you very much to all, regards, Juan

This one is the link to a photo of the piece that I have dismantled, I believe that really it(he,she) was in poor condition

I'm not sure if the original sill members were galvanized but I know the replacements are. Should last many many years.

Good evenings

Yesterday I was trying to put in touch with Spydercars, and I have not received response, suppose that they must be of vacations, am going to wait a few weeks,
the Sill members that my car was taking were not galvanized, which sell now are galvanized, even I have seen that are provided with the screws, nuts and the back plates thank you,

I bought new sills for my +2S from Spyder, and fitted them a couple of years ago.

A short 'How-To-Do" description, together with a few photos, can be found here; http://www.haverstad.net/lotus/elan/sil ... cement.htm
