twincam engine and spyder chassis - value?

PostPost by: jono » Mon Jul 23, 2007 9:53 pm

Hi,

I am doing a Spyder zetec conversion and have a twincam engine and early Spyder chassis which I need to sell to help fund the project.

Engine is a standard LTC, blueprinted by QED some 10k miles / 17 years ago (I cannot verify this but I know the guy who I bought it from very well and do not doubt what he tells me).

He told me it made 130bhp on the QED dyno, I suspect that might be optimistic given that it appears to be a standard none big valve :? but I believe the engine is good and will recommission with minimal work.

The head is off and the bores are perfect but will need a glaze bust. Bores all measure 82.85mm and it's a L block.

Head seems good, valves are standard 33.7mm exhaust and 38.77mm inlet. there are twin dellortos and a new head set, new timing chain, oil pump etc to recommission it.

Chassis is a 1990 Spyder spaceframe in as new condition (car has been dry stored driven for the last 14 years).

What can I expect to get for the above, not looknig to make a fast buck just a fair and reasonable price?

Cheers

Chassis - ?3-400

Engine ?1000 or up to ?2000 if you put it back together with the required parts.

Would be my Guesstimates based on recent eBay activity.

Hi

I have an early Spyder chassis so have watched a few on ebay, I would say ?300 would be a very good price. The engine would be classed as a non-running engine so I would expect ?1,000 to ?1,500.

A chassis change is a big job you only really want to do once, I would rather buy a new one and pay a bit more and know it is dead straight and not have to worry about it. :)

I have seen supposed QED blueprinted engines 'never been fitted' go for ?2,500. Personally I would only buy a used engine if mine was unservicable so would prefer a ?1,000 engine and build it up myself.

You have to look at what a shabby runner would make, I would expect to pay ?2,000 to ?2,500 for a running project on ebay and ?4,000 to ?6,000 for a good car.

My advice would be to stick them on ebay and see what happens :)

Hope this helps
