Thanks, Richard, for pointing me to this great thread of Tim's . . . one of many I had not got to yet.
Downloaded lots of those cool Lotus World jpegs . . . I know, I'm going straight to he_ _ (just hoping British copyright agents don't coming looking for my hard drive . . .)

Yah it puts a smile on my face its actually got a 4.6 range rover P38 engine in now. Still would like a spyder chassis for it and MSD distributor etc etc etc guess i will just keep going till it kills me. It drives quite nice with the coil overs, smooth power and the T5 gearbox and the LSD diff helps in the wet. The front end is off a 60s Lotus Elite with a custom nose cone triumph GT6 bonnet bulge. I read somewhere that Colin Chapman wanted to put a V8 in the plus 2 but the American import rules at the time changed his mind. But i have also read it was a straight 6 so not sure now?

Fantastic project, Munro. I'm all for authenticity, but if you're going to modify one you might as well take it to the limit.
Give us more data, please, like estimated power and performance (on private roads, of course), rear suspension and drive shaft specs. You do seem to have some Lotus in the chassis, and the +2 is fairly generous with space up front, so do you have a rust problem to want a Spyder chassis or do you reckon it is stiffer?
