1972 Lotus Elan +2 S130 (Restored by Brian Mullan (N.I)

I omitted to say that when my father initially bought the car and started it, she was running rough on tickover, and was only on two cylinders....

When he tested the compression, she was showing light on the two front cylinders.

My brother Joe, had built a 1760cc block for a new Ford Mexico shell he'd bought, and gave it to dad to 'run it in' in the Lotus, however when dad put the big valve head on, and started her up, she still had the same problem...

Turned out that the linkage between the Dellortos had slipped, and one of the carbs was completely closed when the other was open.

The 1760cc is still in the car, and the original bottom end is stored at my late fathers garage...

I recently had problems with the starter on the car, ie sticking bendix... I checked online, and had a brand new starter delivered to my door in N Ireland for ?43 sterling... what a bargain!

Just thought I'd share the companies details with you... http://www.vehicle-electrics-online.com

Prompt delivery and excellent product

Keep 'talking' Paul. We are all listening & remember, time is the healer. Things WILL improve with time.

Your dad built one beut' of a car Paul. Show it with pride & keep him smiling!! And keep those pic's coming.

Keep you chin up. Get on with organizing a weekender over in the North. I for one would be up for it. I just love the antrim coast (A2) Done it many times on my Pan European. I would be on the ferry in a toot. Or.. Do you fancy a wee trip to Scotland?

Hello Paul,
How you doing mate? Hope you are looking after that car well! Did you put any thought to the suggestion of an Irish trip for the elan.net guys?

I would really enjoy that.

I am over there quite a lot. Might give you a call next time for a beer or two. I would love to see your dad's fine car. More pics if you got any??
