I wouldn't have needed a pump if the " builders" had followed my instructions with the visqueen , I later had to dig out a pump sump.....that's when the building inspector nearly closed the road and evacuated the street due to methane build-up.....that's when I had to install a gas scavenging system...

An update to an old thread.
This evening I finally took the car out with plastic sheet covering the intakes on the bonnet. There was still some wind noise at motorway speeds, but nothing out of the ordinary. So I have concluded that it is caused by the heater box after all and I should see some improvement when I finally overhaul it.
Of course, there are a whole raft of squeaks and rattles to be addressed, but those are another story.
