any advice (synchro?)

Hi,
STOP THE PRESS! as a friend of mine says, because there is already a register of Plus Twos and here's the link.....
http://hemsidor.torget.se/users/p/plus2/
Maybe we should all contribute to this register and also mark up any cars we know to have been scrapped. Or we could set up a Lotus elan.net one.
Hope this helps David,
Si
Hi John,
I'm not Berni, I'm Simon. I ended my posting with 'your turn Berni' thinking he'd be replying with his list of Plus Twos.
There is a five speed guru called Graham Boulting who had a hand in the design of the 'box. His rebuilds are highly prized and he rebuilt one of mine. Susan Miller has his contact details.
Best wishes,
Simon

There are inaccuracies on that register.
For instance according to Lotus the last car made was chassis number 7501 02013 L not 73122013 and Lotus also say the first chassis number which replaced the 50 prefix with the year and month of production was 7004 00001. Notwithstanding this the register not only lists non-existent chassis numbers (starting from 7001020004M) but also includes colours for them and a couple of people have even declared themselves to be the owners.
Perhaps Lotuselan.net should start a definitive register which is regularly updated and takes account of cars known to have been taken out of circulation. Any thoughts?

I think it's a very good idea, and a couple of things come to mind:
Is it the direction that LotusElan.net wants to go? This could be a chunky piece of work and would require a couple of enthusiasts to manage it. And the 'it' should include 2 seat and plus 2 Elans...there was a recent discussion on a similar theme for 2 seat cars. So we need a direction from the owner(s) of LotusElan.net.
What do we want out of it? It could be a simple spreadsheet much like the current register, or a much more elaborate affair with self-entry, photographs, history etc. that could be built up over the years to provide some sort of provenance for the cars. Have a look at the E Type register to see what can be done...http://www.xked.com/. So we would need to determine the requirements of a register.
Let's not ignore the efforts so far in pulling together Plus 2 and 2 seat registers. These guys need to be included, hopefully to make their information available to our register. We would need to contact these guys dependant on the outcome of the above 2 points
Finally, this would require effort from like minded people. Perhaps 2 or 3 or 4 managing the overall database, and someone in each country watching ebay, club magazines and other market channels for Elans for sale. Then contacting the seller, obtaining the required details and posting those into the register. This is how the E Type register reached critical mass fairly quickly.
If we have such an ambition, I'm sure that we could get access to the records at Lotus to lay down the base information...Chassis numbers, original colour, destiation country etc.
We might also have to find someone in the group who could create some software for all this, depending on the requirements.
So, this could be a big topic. I would certainly be interested in helping out. We need a steer from Mr LotusElan.Net before anything else, and if it's of interest, start a new topic debating the reqirements of such a register.
That's my twopenneth! Next please!!

Dont want to be a prophet of doom but elan.net DID have a register a few years ago, cant remember the exact reasons for its demise but I think it was to do with privacy as not everyone wants to be on a register (for whatever reason)
That aside it would be a huge job to keep it updated and maintained and these registers tend to fall by the wayside as people sell or move on to different interests.
Elan.net is a great site (this forum is an example) and Jeff can be comended for all the work and effort he has put into it, weather he has the time to get involved is another issue (even though I relise offers of help have been made) he would ultimately carry the can.

I'm sorry but this string is just too funny not to join in with!
"I've got one too"
I've just bought it (a blue 1968 +2).
I was a mechanic many years ago and always want one, I know it's sad but it is my dream car. I bought mine on ebay, I saw it and just had to have it. I only had it a week and stripped the dash out to sort the very dodgy wiring, so have not had much of a chance to drive it yet.
I love ebay, it's great for second hand parts, but it is very sad when you see one all in bits.
This forum it's very funny and full of people that are passionate about their cars.
I have looked at the various clubs out there, any ideas which is the best to join? I think Clublotus seems the best value as they have a mag and are relatively local to me.
Jason
P.S.
I saw a dark blue +2 just up the road from me so that's at least 2 in north Essex.
Anyone else out there with a +2 in North Essex?

Hmmm, hello it's me again!
Great to see such a wave of enthusiasm. It seems my curiosity is shared by quite a few of you +2 owners.
I have to say, Mark from the elanintheforest, that you have put a very thought provoking 'steer' on this thread reference what the E-type fraternity have done. Aston Martin do something very similar. I know there is a lot more money there but there are far fewer +2's around so the task shouldn't be that daunting I wouldn't have thought.
Also, I understand the concern of some regarding providing information which they might otherwise prefer to keep to themselves but the creation of some sort of 'provenance' would be likely to maintain the vehicle's value to a greater degree. Also I believe some insurers give more favourable premiums where the vehicle is on some sort of register because it is less likely to be stolen and more likely to be recovered.
I'm new to this and unsure of the 'set up' of the site and the people who already do such a good job of running it. One of those may well want to 'pick up the ball and run with it' from here. Certainly I do not want to go treading on anyone's toes as it seems that if a +2 register is to be made reality then there are probably appropriate channels that have to give approval and perhaps even support if this is to work properly.
Half measures are not the answer if the first few of us on here are to succesfully spawn the begginings of what could be a well worthwhile exercise.
I've always been enthusiastic about the car and rather than own a very nice classic, I consider myself more as a custodian for some-one in the future once I've graduated to my Zimmer. So there... I've got one +2 too!
Perhaps we could all arrange to meet up at Stoneleigh or somewhere similar with a view to moving this one another stage forward.
Does anyone know if DVLA do anything similar to the Irish website posted ealier? Any other suggestions?
Next reply please ! !
Kind regards to all. David.

Hi John
I am sorry to say that I do not know the first thing (apart from the obvious) about the 5 speed boxes. Good luck on your quest.....

2 Elan+2 left in Israel.
One is a runner, and the other one is standing still for 6 years (The owner works abroad, in London). Starting 25 minutes ago, this one is mine. It's chassis # is 7108110197. The number comes from the car license, I haven't checked it on the chassis itself.
