lI miss all that Frank contributed through his Sports Car World. Hopefully someone might have the other numbers--they came from Lotus, he would have formatted them so maybe someone else formatted the later numbers, but the numbers have to be out there. Gordon Sauer

I don't think anyone thought it went up to 306N!
The latest Federal +2 was on the 2002 P-O H?kansson's Register at 293N. With 298N as the last number is would have fitted with Jabby Crombac quote in his book at 5228 total
8 more cars makes 5236 ! No wonder there are so many plus 2s around!

Hi All
I am a newbie so forgive my ignorance, but I thought I owned a 1973 +2 130/5.....but after reading the VIN number list I am not so sure. My chassis number is 73.10.1687L which was first registered on the 20/11/73 according to my logbook. But according to the list my car was made in 1969....which would on the positive side, make it road tax exempt.
Does anybody have any ideas?

It is common for cars to be made a stored and later registered. If you go into a Ford main dealer and order parts they will ask for your chassis number as this tells them when the car was made, the registration number and date mean nothing to them.

What documents will I need to produce?
? Vehicle registration Document/Certificate (V5/V5C) ? This must clearly show a date of registration or manufacture of the vehicle prior to *1 January 1973. If the registration document/Certificate is not available or if you think the age shown is incorrect, you will need to produce a dating certificate from a vehicle enthusiasts club or evidence from the vehicle manufacturer.
*Note: Where a registration document/Certificate indicates that the vehicle was registered up to and including 7 January 1973, we are prepared to allow entry into the Historic Class on the basis that the vehicle would have been constructed the previous year.
So your next step would be to write to the Lotus archive and get a letter stating the date the vehicle was manufactured and send this to the DVLA.

Pre 1970 cars had a different chassis no system. Yours won't be on the list mentioned above as its a 1973 see post above. If it were the car made in 1969 your plate would be 50/1687 not 50/73.10.1687L the 73 meaning 1973 and the 10 meaning October

PS what makes it confusing is that after 1970 Export "M" and Federal "N" numbers ran concurrently with UK "L" Numbers. ie there are 3 x No 100's - 100L 100M 100N
so a 1973 car could be for example 1700L , 280N or 370M ? Thats why the list only goes up to 298 as that was thought to be the last Federal +2.

Terry, thanks for the explanation of the VIN numbers, I did wonder why the post 1970 numbers did not go above 0298.
I suppose as it was my first post I am allowed to be a bit dim.

I wish. Dad had one of those. Lovely car. i think it is in a museum in England now.
One day I will own one ......after I finally finish rebuilding the plus 2.
Chassis # 1055. Anyone have any info at all on it?
Was delivered new to Perth, Western Australia around 1970 even though the car was built in 68.
Very strange.
