1970 +2s Value?

PostPost by: downtempo » Mon May 03, 2004 6:21 am

Hi

Can someone give me an idea of the value of a 1970 +2S in good condition?

~60,000miles, 3 owner car, all original except car was repainted a lighter red.

Starts and runs strong. Most original documents/manuals included.

Thanks for your help!

Car is in Los Angeles.

Greetings from Ohio...I bought a 69 +2 a few years ago for $4000. I felt like it was a heckuva a deal, I think the car is worth about twice that. It had a frame off restoration and a horrible paint job, pops outta reverse if I don't hold the lever and runs fast. If the one you're considering has lived in S. Calif. it's whole life the frame should be ok, but I'd inspect it VERY closely for rust in the trouble spots. Good Luck, they're wonderful cars.

Don't know about the states, but it seems to me that in the UK at the moment a good one is about ?6,500 and ?7,500 private sale and between ?8,000 and ?9,000 from a dealer.

That's about $10,000 private sale and $13,000 from a garage. IF it's genuinely a really good one.

My NADA Classic, Collectible, and Special Interest Car Appraisal Guide lists the car thusly:

Low -- $4900

Avg -- $6125

High -- $9050

Incidentally, I believe what you have is a regular Plus 2, the "S" having come along in 1971.

The +2 S was introduced March 1969 in the UK.

The Federal (USA) +2 S was introduced November 1969.

Thanks for the info.

As I understand it, the +2S came along somewhere around VIN 050-21XX.

(As I don't have any books with me now, I can't recall the exact number).

It's interesting to note however that even though my car is 'officially' in the +2S range (050-2432, i think), it still looks more like a hybrid +2/+2S. While the interior layout is like a +2S, I don't have some 'signature' +2S items like front fog lamps.

My car was produced in Dec. 1969... pretty close to the changeover date, I think.

OK, I'm going to "guess" again. I think your car is worth $6600.

Hi

Here in the UK such a car would be anything between ?3500 and ?5500. I think that they have to be quite good and original (spyder chassis excepted) to break the ?6500 mark. In the Club Lotus magazine last month there were a few that sounded nice for well under ?5000.

I do think that these cars are undervalued. I guess that it will always be that way. I suppose that because they do not rust they sort of linger forever and never look all that bad and there are plenty around. Unless they burn or crash that is.

Berni
Zetec+ 2 under const, also 130S. And another 130S for complete restoration. Previously Racing green +2s with green tints. Yellow +2 and a couple of others, all missed. Great to be back 04/11/2021 although its all starting to get a bit out of control.
