Rear knocking

Been a while since I posted here, but suns out and the Lotus is out of hibernation.

There is a knocking sound from the rear when turning (at higher speeds). Am pretty sure it’s from rear drivers side ..
I don’t see anything obvious that might cause this.

Any ideas?!?

Apart from the obvious checks for security on suspension joints, diff mounting bushes and rods, brake callipers and components and the tightness of the hub nut and wheel nut, it could be that a shock absorber insert is loose in the rear suspension tube. Tighten the nut at the top of the tube through the rear spring to fix.

Do you have cv joints? They can knock on fwd cars when they are worn.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. In my case it was the diff mounting point bushes that where gone (the rubber part atleast). A little fiddly to replace if I remember correctly, had to remove parcel shelf, rear seat and tank. You can propably do it in an easier fashion but that's how I did it. AND... If my memory serves me right, what made it even harder in my case was a riveted nut that had come loose, had to make a tool to keep it in place Let's hope your nuts are where they're supposed to be.

I once had a knocking/clicking noise on a +2 Elan and it was a Bolt in a Rotoflex.
A hole in an Output Shaft at the Diff had become elongated. I had to fit a new Output Shaft.
