What are this Holes for?

PostPost by: hastu » Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:32 am

I hope you like the glitter roof :)
There are 3 holes in the top of the frame for the doors. Can anyone tell me hat they are for? Mounting the seal or something?

I think it might be where the screws that hold the headlining tube end wires go in.

Hastu

The holes are for the fixing of the steel listing tubes that support the roof headlining. There should be four or five holes on each side of the car depending if the headlining requires four or five tubes - they do vary. These are not to be confused with the two pop rivets visible in your picture, that retain the interior light boxes.
I have included pictures of the tube pegs and their fixings for guidance.

Trust this helps.

Gary

Thanks Gary, I thought the clips for the headlining were only screwed on from the inside, without holes on the outside. I have a headliner with 5 pipes. I will check if the 3 holes could fit.

Thank you very much

Hastu
It appears that perhaps your car has been repainted in the recent past and maybe the other two holes have been hidden with filler or paint.
Suggest you have a look from the inside of the roof where the original five holes should be visible.
In my Plus 2 door opening, there are four holes all at 7" centres. If you measure the centres of yours then work along checking with this value, they should be there!

The other mounts are inside the car.

Top of the B pillar air vent - I remember now!
So mine also has five tubes with four holes at 7” centres in the door opening.

Yes, there are 4 Holes on each side in the Door Frame, the 5th Mounting Point is inside the Car on top of the B-Pillar. This Mounting Points matches with the 5 Tube of the Sealing

Great, thank you all for your support

Gary,
Interesting that your picture shows screws. Mine were held in with pop rivets. I will soon be refitting the head lining, what have others used to secure the wires?

So were mine. On my last 2 Plus 2's I used cross head countersunk stainless set screws, M4, with a washer and nyloc on the other side. So much neater than the shonky pop rivets used by Lotus.

Mine, the earlier type with only four tubes, had screws.
