Differential Removal

Is it possible to remove the diff on a +2S without removing the fuel tank ?

Remove the rear seat trim and slide a wrench under the tank to grab the nuts for the upper mounts.

Yes, proceed as Gus says. The tank bottom is recessed slightly for better access.

Refitting it can be a struggle. I find securing the nut in the end of the spanner with masking tape while a helper rotates the bolt from underneath the car works.

Thanks for the prompt responses, will dive in this week and get on with removing then replacing the seals.

Providing the bolts are the correct way (bolt upwards, nut at top) and you have standard three ear output shafts it can be removed.

If the bolts are fitted downwards or you have output shafts without gaps (like the CV shafts with new output shafts available in the USA) then you'll have more issues.
'73 +2 130/5 RHD, now on the road and very slowly rolling though a "restoration"

Yeah, I know that one.
Broke one of the bolts literally 1000 miles from home.
When I put the Spyder chassis in it made perfect sense to put the bolts in from the top
DOH!
keyhole saw handle with a hacksaw blade and an hour or so.......

THe halfshafts come out with a snap ring, so not such a big deal if you cannot get to the bolts
