3D scanning an Elan +2

PostPost by: nickruss » Fri Feb 14, 2020 9:17 pm

The Welsh weather was too bad this week to do the day job of 3D scanning, so I took the opportunity to see how well it could work for measuring a Lotus Elan in the dry. Here are some results and a video animation. Maybe a bit of a sledgehammer to crack the nut of checking suspension geometry where a tape measure would do, but the 3D point cloud (accurate to ±2mm) could potentially be used to make 3D prints of components, scale models or section views. Another use could be interactive wireframe meshes for VR or web applications.

Love the technology - soon we will be able to 3D print body panels !

Did you figure out your suspension geometry from the scan ???

cheers
