Hello everybody,
I am buying one Elan +2 1969.
I would like to check if is it origin engine, if this car is matching.
1/ First of all, I have to get Classic Certificate of Vehicle Provenance to Lotus UK ?
2/ Secondly, I have to check good correspondance between VIN and Engine Number ?
For this, I need to know where is stamped Engine Number ? -> somebody could post picture with engine number ?
Are there others numbers to check ?
Thanks a lot
Ben

The pictures attached are straight off Google so i hope who ever they belong too doesn't mind me using them......
Ok, Engine number is just above the engine Mount as you can see in this picture, there is another of the back of the head but next to impossible to read with the engine in the car.

There should be a Unit number on the Chassis (assuming it's the original one) by the Exhaust manifold on the top of the rail.
Most obvious body number is here
But if it's had paint in it's life time it's often missing or buried..... All the Panels should have the Unit number written on them (usually under the Door cards or head liner etc) Like this for example on my 2 seater.
But all the number should match the Black screw on Chassis plate and Registration docs.
May be also worth PM'ing LotusArchives on the forum if your lucky he might have the car on record which may give you a better idea of what spec it left the factory with.

Ben,
Take a picture of the VIN plate and e-mail it to me at work along with the engine number, You dont need to buy a certificate if you present me with the VIN and engine number as I can let you know if it is matching free of charge, but the certificate will give you all the info. we have on the car.
The engine number is stamped into the engine block next to the engine mounting, viewed between the intake manifolds.

I would rather contact the manufacturer and get accurate records than rely on something someone typed out.
