Air filter

Hi there
Sorry if been covered. Having replaced my air filter today I was thinking to loose the original one as it seems bulky and stuck in front of radiator and I'm sure there's a better option.
Can anyone recommend a filter system such as K&N etc. Want to keep the box on twin Weber and just looking for the rest.
Thanks

I fitted a conical filter on the end of the intake tubing, still in front of the radiator to collect cool air. They are readily available from K&N and on ebay.
If you are thinking of dispensing with the original type round metal box filter, you should find a ready market for it on here.
Hope this helps

Highly recommend the Clivey Boy air filter kit. I fitted one last year to my S3 and haven't looked back.
As Eric mentioned my original box was snapped up on this forum shortly after.

Hi Dave,
It is quite a way back from the grill and not fixed at all. it just lies there dangling on the end of the pipe and on top of the gubbins that there is there. It weighs very little and has never got wet yet. Mind you I never go out in the rain, only come home in the rain.!
Cheers,

I think one would be best to refer to Miles Wilkins Twin Cam engine chapter on air filtration and silencing before making any changes. In short he says "the wrong type of air filtration or exhaust can severly restrict the power output and general running of the twin-cam engine. Jim

Mounted my Clivey boy K&N just in front of the rad, basically the same place as the original air filter. No problems with water ingress despite driving through several downpours last summer.
Only downside is the shiney bits are sometimes visible through the grille, so it's not 100% pitch black in there. I keep meaning to paint the bracketry matt black but never get around to it. Not really a problem as such.
