Hi guys,
I'm currently an Esprit V8 owner who was bitten by the Elan +2 bug at LOG 26 this year in Dallas. (For those of you who attended, this is Willy).
Well, for some reason the Navy Blue and ZZTec Red Elan +2's left me in awe. I've always been an avid follower of American muscle cars (having worked/owned a few myself), but never really British till now.
Now I am on the lookout for one. First thing I wanted to know is if there were any "convertible" Elan +2's imported to the U.S.?? And of course, left hand drive... Furthermore, what were all the original colors available??
Any tips and any information for my search would be greatly appreciated...
Thanx...

Hi Iceman (Topgun fan perchance?)
I don't kow if you are aware but, Lotus never produced a convertible version of the Plus 2 so any that are around would be aftermarket conversions.
Any that reside in the US would have been exported privately or converted over there.
Hope you find one
Cheers
Robbie

Hello,
it's not such a big deal to do a fixed head to drop head conversion with an Elan, as the static is in the subframe and body, not in the roof assembly.
Sill frames would be the same fixed / drop head.
So You have to look for a suitable +2, maybe with bad roof, and talk to people who "did it" and do it. Or buy one that has been already done nicely.
No Cuda prices...
(I still turn around when I hear a nice muscle car!)
Anna
PS: I read in the Robinshaw/Ross book: Christopher Neil did a nice kit,
hood storage like Elan S3/S4 (flat back). It included steel reinforced windscreen frame, new sill members and D-shaped hood tubes + hood.
Maybe available still?

The +2 came in lots of colors. List of lotus paint codes at http://www.grouplotus.com/media/car/doc ... ebsite.pdf for ref. +2 also had a metalflake roof option from 71 on.
As Anna notes convertable was an a/m mod.
