Spares still wanted for my +2

PostPost by: pmallinson » Sun Sep 03, 2006 6:19 am

Hi Guys

I'm still looking for a rev counter if anyone has one out there also another badge for the rear wing 130 / 5 as I have decided that one either side would look better than just the one on the nearside. 8)

My 'otter' switch is presently fastened into the rad top header tank LH side by Tywraps etc, although not leaking I would assume there is a proper clip for this application ? if so can they be bought new or does anyone have a spare ? :?

A bit of news on the alternate car parts database

It IS underway and I'm making slow but determined progress in this field, thanks to ALL 3 of you who donated information :? :? :?

Thanks

Peter,

My new Otter switch arrived FOC last summer, direct from Otter Controls. The package contained three items: the fanstat itself, a bush and a safety clip.

This is a quote from the literature that was sent with it:

" The Y11 is a push-in type and, used in conjunction with a safety clip and bush, can withstand pressures of up to 40 p.s.i. "

So, 'push-in' it is. However, I also used a couple of plastic cable ties as well ...... just for peace of mind.

BTW, well done with the alternate parts list. Coming along nicely.
Will email or pm you later.

Regards,
Stuart.

Stuart

If its not a personal question HOW did you get a Otter Switch FOC ????

Do you know who sells them now and roughly the cost ? as I suppose I won't be able to buy just the bracket which is really all I need !

What temeprature are they set to in the +2 or are they all standard ?

Cheers

Peter,

When I first bought the Sprint (last summer), I felt it was running too hot. Rightly or wrongly, I've always run twin cams in the low 70's. So I changed the 'stat to a 72 degree version, and then contacted Otter to see if they did a lower rated switch.

I simply rang and asked for Technical support. I was then put through to a really helpful and interested tech guy. I explained my enquiry. He said that I really did not wish to know the cost of a new switch, but that he thought they did a lower-rated version. He was about to go on holiday, but would do what he could. He took my details, name, address etc.

It was only after putting the phone down that I realised he had not asked for any credit card details.

I kept my fingers crossed, and sure enough a little package arrived via the post, a few days later. No invoice, just an Advice Note pointing out that the contents are for my "evaluation purposes".

According to the Note, the switch operates as follows:
Max 82, Min 72, min diff 4. Still can't get my head around those figures.

I actually now no longer use the switch, having changed to a full-with rad with Kenlowe fan.

Otter Controls' number is/was 01298 762300.

Assuming Otter do a variety of temperature ratings, do bear in mind that the Otter switch cut-in temp must be related to your chosen thermostat rating. You might care to check your Otter's cut-in temp against the dah temp guage, and then compare it with the thermostat setting.

FWIW, my original switch didn't have the safety bracket (same as you), and there were no signs of leakage. PO had just used cable ties. You may well be ok as you are.

HTH.

Regards,
Stuart.

I replaced the Otter switch on my plus 2 with a modern screw in switch (enlarge the hole in the rad and solder on abrass 24mm nut)
