Malcolm Ricketts open day 2023

PostPost by: Spyder fan » Sun Aug 13, 2023 3:40 pm

Malcolm Rickett’s open day is the highlight of my yearly Lotus calendar, this year it’s quite late on Saturday 30th September probably because the Autumn Classic at Castle Combe is on 23rd September and forms part of the Lotus 75th anniversary celebrations.

I’m going to take both my Elans to upset the purists, a large contingent of which always attend. Malcolm always joins in the fun and allows me to park next to “proper cars” due to my work with the HLR.

I hope to see lots of people from here on the day, it’s always a good day no matter the weather, Malcolm always seems to find some amazing survivor cars that haven’t been seen for years and the event is in support of the Isabel Hospice.

Free to attend, but you need to sample the BBQ and donate some money to buy a drink in aid of the hospice. Last year we had Waygu burgers ….. amazing.
Kindest regards

I may make the trip if I'm back from the RWC in France.

Just bumping this topic because Malcolm & Jill’s open day is a great event in a great cause. Also Malcolm is a leading light in all things classic Lotus and there are a diminishing number of years that he will be on top form to welcome Lotus enthusiasts to his workshop open events.

The Golden Gate Lotus Club did an enthusiast's tour of the UK from 3 Sept to 10 Sept finishing at Goodwood. In between we were given a tour of Malcom's shop hosted by Malcom himself. What a treat to see such wonderful Lotus competition and road cars in his private collection and hear a few of his many stories. Absolutely go if you can. What a treat.
There is no cure for Lotus, only treatment.

I'm hoping to go for the first time this year.

It's not that far away from Writtle in Essex as well!

I'm just looking on Google Maps for Malcolm Ricketts' Old Dairy Barn workshop. All I can see is a compound with Titmuss animal feed merchants. Is the workshop in the same place?

The entrance is just before Titmuss on the left if you are approaching from Wheathampstead village on the B561

The address is Old Dairy Barn, Lamer Lane, Wheathampstead, AL4 8RG

Great day at Malcolm's, really good turnout which was lovely to see, some really superb and rare cars as usual, they managed to sell out of the really tasty wagu burgers,
Many thanks to all involved in putting it on

Yes, a great collection of interesting cars, as usual. Clive Chapman was there and Malcolm and Jill were as welcoming as ever.

As I parked up my Sprint in the Lotus only parking area and switched off, I realised my milometer had just turned over to 82,000 miles. Which means that in the 18 months I have owned the car, I have driven it 4,000 miles.

Here are some photos.

Hi
Just like to reiterate the thanks to those that made the event possible. I was there for the first time having been prompted by posts here . Fascinating collection of cars and a bunch of really pleasant people.
Thanks again

Must be a market for Elan net t-shirts with your user name so people can pick you out in a crowd for events like this
