I have used T & K Precision in Northampton to make me many bits and pieces over the years and their quality is first rate. They specialise in the manufacture of Thread Rolled Studs and Fixings.

I suspect that as playing with old cars ever-increasingly becomes a rich man's game, the demand for good machine-shops won't go away entirely but will become smaller and location won't matter as much since millionaires can send stuff about at will.

It was predicted by MIT in 1972

Back in the day when the BBC didn't treat its audience like they had the mental capacity of a doorstop, 'Horizon' was an excellent documentary program that produced a series of remarkably prescient programs. For me, "The chips are down" from 1978 should be held up as one of the most remarkable programs they ever produced. It is available on iPlayer, but for those of you who can't get to it, the following link has no restrictions. I am afraid the ads are a pain, but it is worth putting up with the perfume ads to watch the program.

Where there's a demand etc - last year I was trying to find someone to carry out some specialist machining on one of my two stroke engines. Someone on Facebook suggested a name about 30 miles from me and I contacted him. Turns out he'd been doing it part time for a few years but demand had increased and he'd just gone full time. I contacted him again earlier this week for some dyno work and he's booked up until the end of next month. Two stroke 'tuners' were two a penny in the 80's but a combination of retirement and the bikes becoming 'magic' (two stroke gas flow is a real black art) a new generation has taken up the challenge. And people are flocking to them.
