Lotus Elan

Classic insurance

This may be teaching grandma to suck eggs, but:

I’ve just insured my two classics as below agreed value with Hagerty classic insurance. Charlie was an absolute gentleman and very knowledgeable. The premium for the two cars very reasonable.

I am in no affiliated to Hagerty, just happy to get what I need from a reputable source for a good price!

That'll depend on your circumstances but for me it's - late 60's, safe area, sensible occupation (previously), no other red flag points, me only driving = around £125/yr comp. That's with RC, linked from here.

+1 for Kim at Routen Chaplin, been with them for a while now and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Our policy is similar to Erics, with salvage retention, two drivers (one 70+), £35k value and i believe we pay £162

Hello Thanks for the information
Re Kim at Routen Chaplin.
I dealt with Kim for some years with the same cars ie an Elan and an S1 Elise. He was excellent and a real good guy to deal with.
Kim then left and I changed my S1 Elise to another S1 Elise and kept the Elan.
I then went to renew my insurance and found that due to the change in the S1 Elise to another S1 Elise my insurance had increased dramatically.
The guy I spoke to at Routen Chaplin informed me that the company had reviewed their policy of insuring
'new business ' regards ' modern classics ' , the guy also informed me that I should never have received no claim's bonus for my original S1 Elise and that the no claims I earned would not be carried over to my new S1 Elise.
At this point I declined to renew my insurance with Routen Chaplin.

There are several friends of mine who continue to insure their Lotus cars via Routen Chaplin and have reported no dramatic change in their insurance costs ,this is not the point I am making .
The guy I dealt with , straight after Kim left informed me that Routen Chaplin had 'reviewed the way in which they dealt with 'new business'.
That was a few years ago now so I may ask for a new quote.
Thanks again
Greg
