What did you do to your Lotus today...
[quote="TBG"]We have been flooded. Nearly a metre deep thrugh house and garage. Lotus up to the steering wheel deep. I had to tie it to my workbench to stop it floating away! Onwards and upwards! D
What a nightmare, hope you will have no trouble with your insurance and that the clearing of the house and elan will go smoothly.

I have made a ‘copy’ of Brian Bucklands tool to fit the rubber in the anti roll bar.
Works really ok, but lubrication and smoothing the inner surface of the eye-glass piece is necessary.

Had a look for the cause of my oil leak, didn't expect it to be quite that easy to find.
Obviously a another attempt at the sump gasket is required!

Our 2nd Annual Meeting for Elan's & +2 start on the 19th of May.
Flat batterie, old fuel, and to get some sport note, some air in the right hand caliper! All cleared.
Tomorrow, a last shakedown spin, in order to be ready to meet guests!

On Tuesday 16th May 2023, I drove to East Kirkby in Lincolnshire to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Dambusters Raid with my mate, who was an RAF engineer during the war, and worked on Lancasters.
For anyone interested in RAF history, and in particular Lancaster aircraft, which were based at East Kirkby, this is a fantastic place to visit for a day. 210 mile round late night trip, as the flypast did not complete till gone 2000 hrs. arriving home at 2330 hrs, round about the time our boys were leaving for the dams, alas many for the last time.

HELP BIG TIME.
My lovely S3SE dhc has been written off by the insurers as it has been submerged in dirty water along with the house. They will not let me keep the salvage.
Therefore I am looking for a replacement S3 DHC.

Pulled the sump. Looks like a seal failure to me. Seal is rubber type and has split when compressed. Maybe I needed to trim it a little before fitting.

Do you have the later Ford rear seal carrier not the narrow groove earlier one that Lotus used as standard ? The narrow groove carrier does not fit the rubber seals
cheers

That's really sad, they'll break it for parts.
Perhaps all owners of S3 DHC could 'advertise' their cars at hugely inflated prices to help with the insurance estimate?

That's tragic, David.
Is it worth refusing the insurance (which company is it?) and sorting it yourself so you don't lose that 3.0 diff that you fitted recently? You have the special engine running already and the car is well maintained so much of the damage will be cosmetic, I imagine. And your own personal history with it...
Best of luck which ever route you take.

Most insurance companies (at least in Australia) will negotiate a cash settlement on speciality cars based on the write off value less what they think they can get from selling the write off at auction.

This is gasket set specific for the Lotus setup (FORD LATE PRE-X-FLOW & LOTUS - SUMP GASKET SET – HC 060E) but with rubber seals rather than the standard cork/rubber materials.
I have a cork/rubber set so can compare them later but I believe them to be the correct thickness for the lotus carrier.
My guess is that like the rubber/cork type they also need a little trimming of the end when fitting which I didn't do. when I fitted it. I think reducing the length would likely reduce the seal mushrooming a little and avoid it splitting.
