Yes the rivets I found too that hey just prize out with a bit of patience.
Re-Sovy Nylon Extension.
Can't answer the question sorry. It is just what was on the car when I bought it and I am sure it is original fitment. '71 +2S130.
Screw ring is steel/tin. I just buffed it up on a wire wheel, it was really rusty beforehand. The screw ring just pulls off the unit. I had previously made a new seal for it to cure the constant fluid leaking.

Alan - many times this has come up on other forums regarding the compatibility of cork and brake fluid. Some say the cork absorbs the liquid and then it breaks up, some say the cork should be covered in shellac etc :roll:

I only raise it to be devil's advocate - I have not a clue if there is any truth in it :D

it seems that the Sovy top on Plus2 has this extension (the infamous canister does the same purpose on 2 seaters, giving room for the float assembly underneath)

that would be an other difference betwween 2 seaters Sovy and Plus2 ones : on my Fed Sovys (2 units) the screw ring is alloy, rather flimsy when oxidized by the brake fluid (same on E-type : alloy, but since they are easier to source I'll make a good red top one with canibalised E-type parts)

Re-Cork Float.
The float in my Sovy valve was original and was just cork and had become saturated in brake fluid over the last 50years and didn't float anymore hence the flickering warning light. I replaced like for like with another cork float. I shortened a wine bottle cork to the same size from an excellent bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape. No expense spared you understand. So if the cork only lasts another 50years before needing replacement I don't think I will be unduly concerned. :wink:

Ahh..Yes you are right!
I wonder if the brake fluid saturation rate of wine cork stopper quality varies? I can feel some enjoyable research into this coming on. :D

I wonder how the new synthetic corks compare in floating performance and brake fluid resistance? I would guess better for the latter item at least.

I used a Hi-Tech foam cork when I rebuild my Sovy in April 2014, it's still bouyant, though it does not have the prestige of a Chateaunuf du Pape cork! :roll:

I think a "Gigondas" would be better than a "Chateau Neuf de Pape" but that depends on the year/ Cru and personal tastes :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Pulled the Elan out of hibernation last evening, introduced her to the new girl today. Made her happy to be the one being driven (Seven's carbs still in bits). I will say, after the Seven the Elan feels downright refined!

Before I install the taillights in the 66 S2 SE, I made some templates to transfer the openings and screw holes to the new 40 year old 26R body shell. Felt good to do that. Later tonight I'm measuring just to be sure and will then cut the holes.
